INTERNATIONAL PUSH FOR NORTHERN RIVERS TOURISM
Byron Bay and Beyond is the new catch phrase for Northern Rivers Tourism and it is about to be heard around the world.
Parker Travel Collection, which has been representing Australian tourism operators and destinations in international markets for more than 12 years, has been appointed to build awareness overseas and market destinations in the Northern Rivers region.
Northern Rivers Tourism Chief Executive Officer Russell Mills said the appointment was a key element in the destination’s marketing program to expand its export ready products, build awareness of destinations, experiences and events and convert this into new business for tourism operators in the Northern Rivers region.
“Our strategy is to instil confidence among international trade wholesalers and retailers selling our region and capitalise on Byron Bay’s iconic profile to encourage international visitors to experience the wider Northern Rivers region,” Mr Mills said.
Parker Travel Collection Managing Director Todd Parker said the destination offered international travellers an authentic Australian holiday experience.
“Fabulous Aussie beach life and water-based experiences, a thriving market culture, an emphasis on health and wellness, precious natural assets in the hinterland and national parks plus an incredible bounty of locally grown produce are all combined in one accessible region,” Mr Parker said.
“It’s a formula that will work in international markets when it is packaged and marketed creatively.”
Mr Parker said rebranding the Northern Rivers as Byron Bay and Beyond would increase awareness of the destination in international markets giving export ready partners an edge in a highly competitive market.
Mr Mills said the strong growth in capacity into the newly renovated Gold Coast Airport, the $8.8million international marketing partnership of the New South Wales and Queensland governments and Tourism NSW’s Surf Tourism Action Plan were all compelling reasons for international travel trade to take notice.
“The Northern Rivers region enjoys a 39 per cent share of all international visitors to regional NSW, up two per cent on the previous year. In the current climate we don’t want to be complacent about this so we’ve prioritised additional investment in inbound tourism from our major source markets.” continued Mr Mills.
Northern Rivers Tourism’s International Destination Marketing Program includes a Regional Travel Planner featuring high quality imagery, editorial and itinerary and package suggestions featuring the product partners. It will be distributed and promoted over 12 months to key markets in the United Kingdom, Europe, North America and New Zealand.
This will be supported by a presence at key trade and consumer events overseas, trade and media familiarisations, online promotion and in-market representation to senior product contracting and marketing staff among influential travel distributors as well as reservation staff training, all aided by Parker Travel Collection.
There are 11 product partners participating in the program including The Byron at Byron Resort and Spa, Apartments Inn Byron, Friday on the Beach, Outrigger Twin Towns Resort, Santai Casuarina Beach, Tweed Endeavour Cruises, Byron EasyBus, Gold Coast Airport, Bluesfest, Mojo Surf School and Cape Byron Kayaks.
The program is supported by the NSW Government through Tourism NSW and its Regional Tourism Partnership Funding Program.
Robbie Bastion, Andrew Dineen and Maria Haglund from Parker Travel Collection will be the team working with Northern Rivers Tourism.
Parker Travel Collection has offices in Cairns, the Gold Coast and Melbourne.
