CONFERENCE DRAWS ON HORIZON FINANCIAL’S PROPERTY FINANCE EXPERTISE

A wealth of experience at the coal face of property finance has secured Mark Turnbull a spot in the line up of speakers presenting at this week’s Australian Property Institute NQ Property Conference in Cairns.

The Managing Director of Horizon Financial, Mark Turnbull will provide a 45 minute interpretation of property finance on the opening day of the API’s two day conference that opens on Friday 24 July 09 at Hilton Cairns. Mr Turnbull’s presentation at 9.45am follows an opening address by Councillor Val Schier Mayor of Cairns Regional Council and an insight into the economic outlook by Justin Smirk of Westpac Banking.

Mr Turnbull said his presentation would provide a broker’s perspective into property finance from the finance broker proposition in today’s market through the interview and application process, importance of valuation and the key relationship between brokers and valuers.

“For this conference in particular, the subject is very topical as the Australian mortgage market is becoming increasingly complex and consumers increasingly busy and time poor.

“My chat puts the microscope on these problems while providing some pro-active, practical solutions,” said Mr Turnbull.

Horizon Financial was founded in Cairns almost nine years ago by Donna and Mark Turnbull. Since then it has developed in to a competitive commercial and residential finance broking and travel business employing 12 staff and in 2008 wrote a combined total of $170 million in finance. The business has accrued a number of prestigious awards in recent years including the MPA’s Mortgage Broker of the Year for both 2007 and 2008.

Horizon Celebrates Record Month in Resi Finance

RECORD MONTH FOR HORIZON DEFIES DOOM & GLOOM

Horizon Financial has defied ‘doom and gloom’ in the business community writing a new record in residential finance for the month of March.

Last month Horizon Financial wrote a total of $ 15 million in residential finance which is the largest ever month end total in the company’s nine year history.

“While commercial loans are definitely down, residential business is showing unprecedented buoyancy – a national trend attributed to a combination of factors, not the least of which is the federal Government’s first home buyer’s grant.

“To give you some idea of this increase, last month’s figure of $15 million is a 200 per cent increase on results for March 2008.

According to Mr Turnbull, it is not just the first home buyer’s market having an affect, but also lower interest rates.

“With interest rates at an all time low, people are not surprisingly, keen to take advantage.  In effect, using this opportunity to refinance and consolidate debt. And with the big banks getting increasingly stringent in their willingness to loan, a broker has the flexibility to pair an individual’s financial situation with a financial institution that best meets their needs,” he said.

INDUSTRY ACCOLADE FOR HORIZON FINANCIAL

Horizon Financial is a finalist in a prestigious industry award recognising the Cairns company’s business acumen in a challenging economic climate.

The 2009 MFAA (Mortgage Finance Association of Australia) Excellence Awards will be announced at the annual presentation dinner on Friday February 27 at the Sydney Convention Centre.

Horizon Financial Managing Director Mark Turnbull said he was delighted with his company’s success in the category of Finance Broking Business (2-5 loan writers) as it was an endorsement of Horizon’s work ethic and focus on providing innovative finance solutions.

“These awards also recognise the commitment from Horizon Financial’s staff to provide a professional service while delivering customer service excellence in a highly competitive and challenging market,” he said.

The nomination by Australia’s peak regulating body for the finance industry comes only months after Mr Turnbull was awarded the Mortgage Professional Australia’s No.1 Commercial Broker of the Year for the second time running.

His success has seen him in demand as a speaker in the finance industry.
