For the fourth year in a row, the Cairns Colonial Club Resort was given the ‘green thumbs up’ at Cairns Regional Council’s annual Garden Awards; taking home top honour in the “Tourist Accommodation & Caravan Parks” category. This award was announced on Saturday 8 August by Councillor Val Schier, Mayor of Cairns Regional Council.
Garden coordinator, Cameron Hill said the resort’s tropical gardens, which span 4.5 hectares (11 acres), are in peak health thanks to his dedicated team who work hard to maintain the lush rainforest feel that visitor’s consider a special part of their visit to Cairns Colonial Club Resort.
“Once again, I am thrilled to win this award and was impressed by the calibre of the competition. To be singled out is particularly special and is a great endorsement for all the hard work and effort that goes into keeping the resort gardens in tip-top condition,” he said.
General Manager of Cairns Colonial Club Resort, Peter Blackburn has taken the opportunity to congratulate Mr Hill and his team and said that he is proud to manage a resort whose gardens are nothing short of spectacular.
“Cairns Colonial Club Resort is much admired by guests for its tropical ambience and lush, leafy surrounds that may not look high maintenance, but take a great deal of care and tending to maintain premium health.”
The Cairns Regional Council Garden Awards are conducted annually. The competition covers the Local Government area and is sponsored by the Council, local businesses and clubs. The intent of the awards is to encourage residents and businesses to take pride in their premises and streets.
The Cairns Colonial Club Resort is one of the tropical city’s iconic places to stay and is popular amongst visitors the world over. The resort’s tropical gardens and rainforest boardwalk play an important role in the overall experience. The lush greenery provides the perfect foil to traditional Queensland architecture which combine to immediately transport visitors from the outside world into a very special ‘club’ atmosphere that can be likened to a ‘home away from home’.
